The General Assembly set aside 40,000 acres of land in the state of Georgia in 1784 for establishing a seminary of learning. This led to the incorporation of the University of Georgia in 1785. Abraham Baldwin was the first President of the University. The University was actually established in 1801, when the board of trustees selected the land site near the banks of the Oconee River. Josiah Meigs was named the President, and 17 colleges and schools were established over a period of time. The C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry College of Business came into being in 1912. Mr. Terry was an emeritus trustee of the UGA foundation and a recipient of the Terry College’s distinguished Alumni award. Mrs. Terry made valuable contributions in the field of education and was recognized for her outstanding service for the University in 2009 and bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (highest recognition given by the University).

Terry’s MBA program lays immense emphasis on Leadership and builds leadership skills in its students through a series of workshops in Communication techniques, Personal Branding, Powerhouse presenting, Self-assessment and Team facilitation. The UGA’s Institute of Leadership Advancement annually invites business leaders of the corporate world to share their experiences with the students. Students are enlightened by the thoughts and experiences of such eminent personalities and develop a holistic perspective regarding business issues.
International Residency is embedded into the MBA Curriculum in order to give an international flavor to the program. Students make short abroad trips of 8-10 days, where they delve into the culture, economy and market of another country. In the past, students have made visits to Shanghai, Beijing, Buenos Aires and Santiago that have proved to be fruitful. Students got the chance to indulge themselves into the Chinese culture and make company visits, where they learnt about the domestic and international businesses of China.
Terry MBA Consulting Club is a student run organization, which trains students who want to make a career in Consulting. Students get access to the tools and resources required for them to succeed in the Consulting industry.
The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Club hosts several events such as the Silicon Valley Trek, where students get exposure to the working of a start-up. Students get to interact with Venture Capitalists and make trips to renowned companies like Google, which gives them a holistic picture of the entire start-up scenario.
The University is located at the core of the Athens city of Georgia, less than an hour’s drive from Atlanta. The Blue Ridge Mountains is the favorite hiking destination of youngsters over the weekend. Backpacking, Horseback riding, Cycling and Snow Skiing are some of the outdoor recreational activities offered in the city for adventurous people. The Twilight Criterium, an annual cycling race is one of the popular events at Athens. The 313-acre State Botanical Garden of Georgia and the pristine beaches add a divine and peaceful touch to the city. The Networking events held by the Center are an initiative taken by the Center to bring the students, employers and alumni on a common platform. The market treks and company tours organized by the Center in collaboration with the local and national companies enriches the knowledge of the students regarding the industry.
