Canada Work Visa Rules

In the past, there have been changes in the demands and the way the work permit needs to be applied. Nevertheless, a job offer from a Canadian employer is mandatory for receiving the Canadian work permit. Mostly, these work permits are temporary in nature, but they can be further extended from inside Canada. The work permits are granted by the Canadian immigration authorities if supported by a positive “Labour Market Impact Assessment” (LMIA) letter issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). It should indicate that the proposed employment will not adversely affect Canadian workers. Every year, 200,000 foreign skilled workers come to work in Canada on Temporary Work Permits.

Work Permit
Work visas and employment authorizations are known as work permits in Canada. This is issued by the Canadian Government, thereby allowing the foreign individual to work for a specific employer. Also, in case the applicant changes the specific employer or the company, he/she needs to apply for a different work permit, which is mandatory. The work permits are issued by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), a department of the Canadian Government.
Few of the factors that play a crucial role in getting the work permit are:
• Prove that you would leave Canada after the expiry of the work permit
• Ample money to take care of yourself and the family during the stay in Canada
• No Criminal Record
• Not a danger to Canada in any way
• In good health and medical examination reports
• Not plan to work for an employer who offers striptease, erotic dance, escort or erotic massage services
• Not have worked in Canada for one or more periods that total four years within the past four years
In addition to it, it is mandatory to attach the job offer with the visa application. The following details should be mentioned in the job offer.
• Name and Address of the Employer
• Details of the Salary that would be paid
• Details about the start and end date of the job
• Requirements of the job: Educational Credentials, Skills, Licenses and Professional Experiences
• Description of the duties of the job as well as the responsibilities

Working Holiday Visa
It has been renamed the International Experience Canada (IEC) initiative. It provides young individuals, ranging from 18 to 24 years of age, the opportunity to travel and work in Canada

Work without a Work Permit
The Canadian immigration policy provides s certain workers to enter without the mandatory need of the work permit if they belong to services like Business Visitor, Foreign Representative, Foreign Government Official, Athlete or Coach, Reporter, Clergy, Emergency Service Provider, Judge or Examiner. However, Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) requirements may still apply.

Open Work Permit
Obtaining a valid job offer is not necessary for the applicants of the Open Work Permit. They normally belong to spouses/common law partners of certain work permit holders as well as asylum seekers and spouses/common law partners of foreign students in Canada.
