Australia Work Permits Rules

Over the years, the progressive immigration system at Australia has dynamically aimed at reducing the shortage of skilled workers. A skilled worker can be sponsored under the Subclass 457 work visa, which is a temporary business visa, by the business employers. This visa has proved to be quite popular for regulating work-related functions and immigration policies in Australia.

For an employer to be eligible to grant the invitation for the worker to enter Australia, the following steps apply:

• Applying to be a sponsor to employ workers from the overseas.
• Nominating the occupations they want filled with the respective names of the overseas worker.
• Employing overseas workers to fill the nominated positions.
• Showing financial support to sponsor the employee for the work visa.
• Co-operating with the monitoring efforts of the immigration department.

457 Visa Employer Requirements
Before being able to sponsor the candidate, the employer needs to be approved as the sponsor by the immigration department. For an employer, it is mandatory that he/she must be an Australian business that operates within Australia or should have an overseas business bringing in overseas employees for the purpose of setting up a business within Australia. Both these businesses should attest their commitment for employing local labour as well as undertaking non-discriminatory employment practices. At the same time, there should be nothing adverse on the records of the businesses.

457 Visa Employer Requirements
The following work visa requirements must be met by the applicants before they apply for the work permit in Australia.
• Sponsorship letter from the respective employer.
• Credentials to meet the requirements of the position, like the qualifications and the needed experience.
• Demonstrated English language proficiency. (IELTS score of 5)
• Eligibility for relevant licenses which would be associated with the profession.

Skilled Independent Visa
This type of work permit (unlike most others) does not require the employer to sponsor the employee in anyway. After Australia had a huge shortfall in the number of skilled labourers, such incentives were provided. The individual has to score at least 60 points on a points-based assessment to be eligible for this visa type.

Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa
It is a temporary visa. It is basically issued to those individuals who possess the skills to improve Australia’s workforce by working in a specific region. The important criteria is to be eligible for this visa includes:
• Being sponsored by a relative or the employer
• Being prepared to work in a specific region for a minimum of 1 year.
